Ways to quiet a class
When you have a group of students working on a task, it is sometimes
difficult to get them to quiet down to move on to another part of the lesson.
Here are some ideas on how to do it, from the class members of ID013. (Transcribed
by Jessie Reynolds)
1. Flick the lights on and off
2. Begin to write on the board
3. Give a time limit before the activity begins
4. Make a loud noise (hoot and holler)
5. Ring a bell
6. Give a two minute warning
7. Hands up, mouths shut
8. Use music as a cue to finish work and transition to a new activity.
9. If you can hear my voice, clap three times (said very quietly)
10. Use a special sound like a whistle that sounds like a train, a penny
whistle, etc.
