Sharing Documents Electronically

Here's a recapitulation of how to share documents electronically:

1)If you are creating a document to share (a chapter summary, a paper
for me that you want to submit electronically), create the document in
your word processor, then save it on your hard drive. Remember the
location where you saved it. If you just want to read a shared
document, then follow the steps below:

2) Log on to the servers (Serval) using Netware. Enter your id and
password. If you have trouble with this step, call the ITS help desk:
x2200.

3) If you are uploading a document, use the Windows Explorer on a PC
or the equivalent on a Mac to copy the document.

4) Follow the path to our class folder: Serval/Vol_2/Classes/wt99/
id013a/

You should see five folders: Here is what to use them for:

DROPBOX: Use this to drop off assignments that you are submitting
electronically. Once you've put the file in here, you won't be able
to change it, so be sure that your work is in final form before
submitting it.

HANDOUTS: I probably won't be using this as I'm putting
handouts on from the web page, so don't worry about this one for now.

PUBLIC_HTML: This contains the files for our web page. You don't need
to worry about them, unless you want to make one or part of your
assignments available for others to see via the web page.

RETURN: Each of you has a folder in this folder. I'll return electronically
submitted work to you via the folder.

SHARE: This is a file that everyone has access to. We'll use this for our text chapter summaries
and for other work that we want to share with others in the class.

5) If you are uploading a document, choose the correct file and paste
your document into it. If you want to read a document, go to it, make
a copy, and download it. Then you can read it at your leisure.
